Phyllis Dobbs began a creative career 20 years ago designing in the needlework and crafts industry. She focused on cross stitch and quilt designs and created over 1500 designs that have been published in books, magazines and licensed in kits.
She also designed needlework for clothing in the fashion industry. Phyllis created some needlework designs for vintage clothing for Polo Ralph Lauren.
In the past few years, Phyllis has been creating textile product lines for manufacturers. She has designed for spring and all the seasonal holidays.
A great honor for Phyllis was winning the Plaid Horizons Award in 2003, a prestigious grant to use for career educational purposes.
Phyllis is creating art for surface designs and product and has an extensive portfolio of art images. Her art reflects a sense of whimsey and her painting is driven by her passion for color.
She loves to create whimsical characters. Phyllis loves the feel of painting by hand, but has developed the computer skills for manipulating and formatting her art for product use.
Phyllis' newest licensing partner, Hancock Fabrics, licensed her art for a collection of 20 colorful flannel fabrics.
Phyllis grew up in Mobile, Alabama. She received her formal design training
at the University of Alabama where she graduated with a BS in Interior
Design. She currently lives in Birmingham, Alabama where she creates her
design magic.
